"As outlined in the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Regional Planning Model and DEMHS Advisory Bulletin 2007-1, these regions were created in 2007 to facilitate emergency management planning and regional collaboration" (DEMHS).
The Naugatuck Valley Health District and its MRC unit fall in Region 2 and Region 5. This allows our unit to train and exercise with, as well as help support and/or request support from other units in these regions. Unit Leaders from Region 2 meet monthly and Region 5 Leaders meet quarterly. The State has held statewide MRC leadership meetings as well - this type of collaboration is important for building our own individual units!
